Living in a golf course… an unequalled lifestyle
By Jesús de AvilaVallarta Greens • Translation by Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo | October 2008

Puerto Vallarta GolfIt is quite common to think that most properties around golf courses are bought mainly by golf lovers; that can be accurate for some destinations, though not precisely for Puerto Vallarta and the region of the Bay of Banderas and the Riviera Nayarit.

Talking to Ivan Osuna, director of marketing for the sale of deluxe residential projects and developments, among which some located on golf courses are found, like Sensara Vallarta, I discovered that at least in this region nearly 70% of golf course properties’ buyers never play golf!   Somehow corroborating this information, Francisco Salazar, golf professional at the El Tigre Club de Golf, commented that based on a monitoring of those who play at this golf course, they calculate that only 30% of villa and/or condo owners play regularly.

With this scenario in front of me, the following question came to my mind: What is it then that motivates someone who does not play golf, to invest in a golf course property or one in its surroundings?

Puerto Vallarta GolfWe did not have to wait long for an answer from some of the experts. Above all there is the fact that all golf courses are authentically beautiful spaces with abounding greenery;  highlighting some types of trees, plants, vegetation and other elements from nature strategically placed with the purpose of creating, along with the course’s topography, spectacular scenarios contributing to every day becoming sensibly pleasant.

The next attraction nourishing the interest in owning a home in a golf course is the obligated consequence generated by the first statement… “an unequalled lifestyle”. There is nothing, at least in this area of the Pacific Coast, which compares to the feeling you get from knowing that you live in a place of privilege, exclusivity and quietness. A very special feature to some golf courses is having a community or “Club House” where, as owners —while they get to know their neighbors— they can use and enjoy: a spa, gym, pools, kids’ recreational areas, game rooms, tennis courts, sauna, restaurant-bar and business center, among other services and facilities that raises their level in its sense of exclusivity.

Another outstanding aspect is security. All golf clubs are designed and built within a clearly outlined surface, most staying within a strict maintenance program and impeccable surveillance.

“Many of us dream of seeing our children and grandchildren play, run or bike around enjoying complete safety and full freedom outdoors – as we did several decades ago – and that is something we can all see and enjoy daily while living within the boundaries of a golf course

For all these reasons —and others we will be mentioning in future articles― the appreciation or added-value of golf course properties will always be higher than any other zone [except for some strategic beach spots], reason why many foreigners —among them a great number of baby boomers— seriously seek the opportunity to invest and live in some of the eight golf courses in our region, or at least near them.

Those who dream of acquiring a golf course property know that achieving their dream represents making a higher-than-average investment, though knowing the benefits and lifestyle they will arrive to, they are more than willing to pay!

Puerto Vallarta Golf Are there disadvantages to living in a golf course? What are the specifics I should consider before even visiting a property being sold in a golf course? Compared to some other areas in this destination, how much higher is the price per meter in a golf course? And what is there to be known about maintenance in a golf course property? These, among other, are some of the questions we will start to answer in future articles with the help of expert real estate brokers as well as actual owners in some of our region’s eight golf courses.

But for now I will have to say good-bye because I am being awaited at hole-one’s tee-off… Email to a friend

God bless you,

Jesús de Avila.
