I came across this article in a magazine called, "Mexico Golf Tournament & Resorts". The article was written by Ana Luisa Ochoa, and I have translated it from Spanish for the reading enjoyment of English speakers. It reads as follows:

There is only one word that can describe the new Four Seasons Golf Course located in Punta Mita, Vallarta: spectacular:

The new course offers impressive panoramic vistas of the ocean, as well as 201 acres of exuberant rolling hills and stunning landscapes painted with flowers. The 7,005-yard 18-hole par 72 course was designed by "The Golden Bear". Included among the holes are 8 that border the sea, and the 19th hole - a par 3 - has an optional green situated upon a natural island which makes it unique in Mexico.

Laid out over a natural rock hillcrest, which is a well-known spot for whale watching, lies the island hole - known as the "Whale's Tail". This hole presents a further challenge with an opening tee that borders the ocean and an undulating green designed in the form of a whale's tail situated 195 yards from the coast. The hole has an opening tee on the mainland, while the green is situated on an idyllic natural island 213 yards from the beach. This incomparable championship course is found in the top choice destination of the Four Seasons in Mexico.

For Jack Nicklaus, the Four Seasons Golf Course in Punta Mita represents the source of every challenge and emotion that golfers wish to experience in a world-class resort. This, combined with the fine magic of the marvelous vistas of the sea and the great diversity of scenery, makes for an exclusive ambience.

"It's been designed for the optimum pleasure of play for golfers of all levels. This magnificent course maintains the delicate natural balance of its environment."

The new Four Seasons Golf Course in Punta Mita, opened in May 1999, includes a world-class clubhouse. The clubhouse has a pro shop, as well as food and beverage facilities. Professional golfer Sam Logan is available for onsite private lessons and clinics - which include video analysis designed to improve the abilities of all golfers.

Also included in this resort is a practice section complete with sand traps, chipping areas, practice greens and pitching greens. Golfers may enjoy a wide range of services, like convenient access to the course and professional equipment rental among which include Callaway graphite clubs.

Developed with careful consideration of the environment, the course includes a state-of-the-art climate monitoring station. The station is equipped with four computerized stations for the monitoring of humidity within the soil. This enables a cautious irrigation of both the greens and fairways based upon necessity. In order to further protect the environment, organic fertilizers are employed (in place of chemical agents), as well as virtually no herbicides or insecticides. Within the greens bordering the ocean, only biodegradable insecticides are used. The natural vegetation, which includes 26 acres of natural grassy areas, has been conserved within the course. Amidst the surrounding area, almost 6 more acres have been covered with grass and the remaining area has been seeded with special types of grass cultivated within a greenhouse located inside the complex.

The greens are designed in accordance with USGA standards, which dictate that they must have 4 inches of gravel and one foot of mixed sand and moss. The course uses the Champion-Dwarf Bermuda on the greens and tees, while the Bermuda T-419 is utilized in both the roughs and fairways.

Ever since the 1960s, Jack Nicklaus has been the dominant force in the sport of golf. Both as a player and a designer, he has played a major role in the game. Over the course of his career, Nicklaus won over 100 tournaments. Included in his victories are 6 Masters championships, 5 PGA championships, 6 Senior PGA titles, 4 U.S. Open titles, 3 British Open championships and 2 U.S. Amateur championships.

To date, Nicklaus has designed more than 135 golf courses throughout the world, many of which have played host to numerous annual events of the PGA Tour, the Senior PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour.
